BSI Flex 2072 v1.0 is part of our Zero Emission HGVs and Infrastructure Standards Programme, which supports the decarbonization of the road freight industry and related infrastructure. The standard, sponsored by Connected Places Catapult (CPC) and funded by the Department for Transport, will facilitate upskilling of the vehicle maintenance and repair industry by providing specifications on planning and operating workshops suitable for heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs) equipped with batteries, hydrogen tanks and fuel cells.
BSI Flex 2072 v1.0 provides essential requirements for operating battery electric and hydrogen-fuelled HDV workshops, covering various aspects including repair and maintenance activities, risk management, planning, personnel, layout, systems, and operations.
Additionally, it outlines requirements for managing these HDVs, encompassing use, parking, fuelling for commissioning, inspection, diagnostics, installation, repair and maintenance, disposal, transportation, and documentation.
Applying guidance from BSI Flex 2072 will help with the effective and safe operation and planning of the workshops. It aligns repair and maintenance with best practices for handling battery electric and hydrogen-fuelled HDVs. This will ultimately facilitate the roll out of zero emission HGVs, buses and coaches.
This BSI Flex is applicable to fleet managers in identifying and embedding the appropriate safety principles in the development of inspection and maintenance protocols for battery electric and hydrogen-fuelled HDVs. It is also applicable to those responsible for planning or design of storage, maintenance and inspection facilities such as workshops and warehouses.
BSI Flex 2072 v1.0 is of use to:
· Battery electric and hydrogen-fuelled HDV workshop architects, workshop owners, workshop staff, original equipment manufacturers (OEM), and system manufacturers,
· Battery electric and hydrogen-fuelled HDV owners and users, dealers, and local authorities.
