BS EN 60730-2 is a European standard on automatic electrical controls for household and similar use. BS EN 60730-2-4 is a fourth part of the multi-series standard that discusses the requirements for thermal motor protectors.
BS EN 60730-2-4 applies to the partial evaluation of thermal motor protectors as defined in IEC 60730-1 for sealed (hermetic and semi-hermetic type) motor compressors.
A thermal motor protector is an integrated control which is dependent on its correct mounting and fixing in or on a motor and which can only be fully tested in combination with the relevant motor.
BS EN 60730-2-4 applies to thermal motor protectors for motor compressors using NTC or PTC thermistors, additional requirements for which are contained in Annex J.
BS EN 60730-2-4 applies to the inherent safety, to the operating values, operating times, and operating sequences, where such are associated with equipment safety, and to the testing of thermal motor protectors used in or on sealed (hermetic and semi-hermetic type) motor-compressors.
Thermal motor protectors for motor compressors not intended for normal household use, but which nevertheless may be used by the public, such as equipment intended to be used by laymen in shops, in light industry and on farms, are within the scope of BS EN 60730-2-4.
BS EN 60730-2-4 applies to thermal motor protectors for use with electric motors with a rated voltage equal to or less than 690 V and a rated output of 11 kW or less.
Note1: BS EN 60730-2-4 does not apply to thermal motor protectors designed exclusively for industrial applications, motor protection, and a manual device for opening the circuit.
Note2: BS EN 60730-2-4 does not take into account the response value of an automatic action of control if such a response value is dependent upon the method of mounting the control in the equipment. Where a response value is of significant purpose for the protection of the user, or surroundings, the value defined in the appropriate household equipment standard or as determined by the manufacturer applies.
BS EN 60730-2-4 on requirements for thermal motor protectors is useful for:
BS EN 60730-2-4 provides requirements to protect personnel from electric shock, motor protector, the conductors of the motor branch circuit, and the motor itself from high currents.
The thermal protector is present to turn the motor off when excessive heat is generated within the motor circuitry. BS EN 60730-2-4 specifies safety feature halts the temperature climb before it burns up the motor and helps users during the use of appliances with safety.
BS EN 60730-2-4 provides safety requirements for thermal motor protectors for motor-compressors of the hermetic and semi-hermetic types which are used in heating, air conditioning, and similar applications, that help you to ensure protection against electric shock.
BS EN 60730-2-4 provides requirements for thermal motor protectors for motor-compressors of the hermetic and semi-hermetic types that help you during manufacturing motor protectors with superior quality. BS EN 60730-2-4 provides requirements for thermal motor protectors that affect their intended operation that helps you to determine the performance of thermal motor protectors.
