BS EN IEC 60974-1 is the first part of multi-standard series.
BS EN IEC 60974-1 specifies the safety and performance requirements of welding power sources and plasma cutting systems.
Note 1: is applicable to power sources for arc welding and allied processes designed for industrial and professional use, and supplied by a voltage not exceeding 1000 V, battery supplied or driven by mechanical means.
Note 2: BS EN IEC 60974-1 is not applicable to limited duty arc welding and cutting power sources which are designed mainly for use by laymen, the testing of power sources during periodic maintenance or after repair and does not include electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements.
BS EN IEC 60974-1 on Welding power sources applies to:
Welding power sources do not generate power, instead of functioning as controllable transformers that allow the operator to adjust electrical properties as needed.
BS EN IEC 60974-1 provides various test methods so that the equipment shall be constructed and assembled correctly so that it has the strength and rigidity necessary to withstand the normal service to which it is likely to be subjected, without increasing the risk of electric shock or other hazards whilst maintaining the minimum clearances required.
BS EN IEC 60974-1:2018+A1:2019 the fifth edition cancels and replaces the fourth edition published in 2012.
BS EN IEC 60974-1:2018+A1:2019 supersedes EN 60974-1:2012, which is withdrawn.
In comparison with the previous edition, the following technical modifications have been made:
