BS EN 15510 is a European standard that serves technical specifications for methods of sampling and analysis of animal feeding stuffs to ensure their quality, longevity, and nutritional value.
BS EN 15510 specifies the inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES) method for determining the element’s calcium, sodium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, iron, zinc, copper, manganese, cobalt, molybdenum, and lead.
BS EN 15510 was successfully tested for calcium, sodium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, iron, zinc, copper, manganese, cobalt, and molybdenum in the following animal feeding stuffs: two complete feeds (pig feed, sheep feed), one feed material (phosphate), one mineral premixture and two complementary feeds (two mineral feeds).
BS EN 15510 was also successfully tested for lead in two feed materials (phosphate, CaCO3), two feed additives (Bentonite, CuSO4), one complementary feed (mineral feed).
BS EN 15510 is applicable as a screening method for elements with a HORRAT value higher than 2.
BS EN 15510 specifies the limit of quantification that should be 3 mg/kg or lower. BS EN 15510 method also applies for the determination in products with high element content (>5 %). For this Purpose, the accuracy of the method has to be checked individually.
