BS EN 601 is a European standard that focuses on the quality and safety of food and food products. BS EN 601 aims to ensure the safe consumption of food products. BS EN 601 specifies the maximum mass content of alloying elements and impurities in aluminium and aluminium alloy cast materials and articles designed to be in contact with foodstuff. It contains provisions for the demonstration of conformity of products with the present standard.
Note1: Materials include ingots and liquid metal. Articles are finished goods.
Note2: Some of the products listed in the present standard can be subject to patent or patent applications, and their listing herein does not in any way imply the granting of a licence under such patent right.
BS EN 601 on chemical composition of castings for use in contact with foodstuff is useful for:
Aluminium is formed over the surface which prevents aluminium to react with food. BS EN 601 enables you to detect the aluminium and aluminium alloy cast materials and articles designed to be in contact with foodstuff ensuring a long shelf-life for your food products.
The cast aluminium and aluminium alloys that are used for the fabrication of articles for use in contact with foodstuff are those which need to conform with the BS EN 601. For every use of standardized cast aluminium or aluminium alloy for the fabrication of articles for use in contact with foodstuff, the conformity with BS EN 601 will be established by checking the maximum contents.
The selection of the aluminium or aluminium alloy with BS EN 601 for a given application shall be the responsibility of the end-product manufacturer, depending on the intended final use.
