BS EN 12312-6 is a European Standard specifies the technical requirements to minimize the hazards listed in Clause 4 which can arise during the commissioning, operation and maintenance of de-icers equipment designed exclusively for de-icing and washing of aircraft with de-icing/anti-icing/washing liquids when used as intended, including misuse reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer, when carried out in accordance with the specifications given by the manufacturer or his authorized representative. It also considers some requirements recognized as essential by authorities, aircraft, and ground support equipment (GSE) manufacturers as well as airlines and handling agencies.
BS EN 12312-6 applies to:
BS EN 12312-6 does not apply to:
Note: BS EN 12312-6 is not dealing with hazards in respect to a standard automotive chassis and the traffic on the apron.
Note 2: BS EN 12312-6 is not applicable to de-icers and de-icing / anti-icing equipment that are manufactured before the date of publication of BS EN 12312-6 by CEN.
BS EN 12312-6 on de-icing/anti-icing equipment is useful for:
De-icing/anti-icing equipment is a piece of equipment, mobile or stationary, used for performing de-icing / anti-icing/washing operations on aircraft on the ground.
De-icer is an entire mobile unit, including the chassis and any structures mounted thereon.
De-icing equipment is designed to remove ice after it begins to accumulate on the airframe. Flexible rubber-like boots that expand and contract on ice-prone areas of the aircraft are a common type of de-icing equipment.
BS EN 12312-6 provides you with safety requirements as well as some functional and performance requirements for de-icers and equipment intended for de-icing/anti-icing all aircraft types commonly in service in civil air transport. When used at the design stage, BS EN 12312-6 lets you mitigate potential risks at the beginning of the process. As a manufacturer of de-icing/anti-icing equipment, you can refer to the guidelines in BS EN 12312-6 to comply with safety regulations.
By adopting BS EN 12312-6, you can demonstrate the reliability of your de-icing/anti-icing equipment and build trust in their use throughout the aircraft supply chain.
BS EN 12312-6:2017 supersedes BS EN 12312-6:2004+A1:2009.
