BS ISO 6489-3:2021

What is ISO 6489‑3 about? 

ISO 6489‑3 is the third part of the ISO 6489 multi-series that focuses on agricultural vehicles. This international standard aims to help its users produce high-quality agricultural vehicles by helping them focus on the quality of individual components. ISO 6489‑3 specifies the dimensional requirements and location for categories 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 drawbars mounted on the rear of agricultural tractors. 

ISO 6489‑3 provides specifications for clevis, hitch point, categories, location, position and dimensions. 

Who is ISO 6489‑3 for? 

ISO 6489‑3 on tractor drawbar for agricultural applications is applicable to: 

• Manufacturers of tractors and tractor components 
• Suppliers, distributors and importers of tractors components 

Why should you use ISO 6489‑3? 

A drawbar is a heavy bar attached to the back of a tractor and used as a hitch for pulling gear such as a plough or mower. 

ISO 6489‑3 gives you information on specifications, vertical drawbar load, PTO drive shaft clearance and marking which allows you to increase the strength of drawbars to tow heavy gear or machinery. 

What’s changed since the last update? 

BS ISO 6489‑3:2021 supersedes BS ISO 6489‑3:2004, which is now withdrawn. 

Changes in BS ISO 6489‑3:2021 include: 

• Addition of specifications for drawbar position dimension T for PTO type 4 
• Addition of a new dimension L (distance from hitch pin hole to the tyre OD for wheeled tractors or for tracked tractors to the rearmost vertical tangent line with the tracks at their rearmost pivoted position) 
• Specification of pin diameter as a range 
• Addition of requirements for marking
