BS EN 4827 is a standard that covers technical specifications for hexavalent chromium free anodizing for aluminium and aluminium alloys for aerospace applications which enhances corrosion resistance and longevity.
BS EN 4827 defines the requirements for hexavalent chromium free anodizing of aluminium and aluminium alloys for corrosion protection, bonding and painting.
BS EN 4827 gives design, quality and manufacturing requirements. It does not give complete in-house process instructions; these are given in the processors detailed process instructions.
Note: BS EN 4827 does not apply to -
BS EN 4827 on hexavalent chromium free anodizing for aluminium applies to:
Anodizing is an electrochemical process voltage-controlled that transforms the aluminium surface with a nanoporous and amorphous oxide layer. It ensures protection against corrosion and to be used as an adhesion base before bonding or before painting.
BS EN 4827 provides you guidance on the applicability of anodizing for two types, including unsealed anodizing for surface preparation for painting purposes and sealed anodizing for corrosion protection which gives you flexibility in the range of applications.
BS EN 4827 provides you guidance on process requirements, including information for the processor, condition of parts before the treatment, process conditions, water quality which enhances the process accuracy and consistency.
BS EN 4827 provides you guidance on engineering requirements, including visual appearance, anodic layer thickness, corrosion prevention performance of unpainted parts, paint adhesion on anodic film, corrosion prevention performance of painted parts and fatigue performance, enabling the reduction of errors and failures.
Guidance in BS EN 4827 enables you to anodise aluminium and aluminium alloys for surface treatment before paint and increase their corrosion resistance in aerospace applications.
