BS EN 3475‑707 states that the measurement must be done on samples directly out of a reel or out of a coil with a minimum of deformation and the test specimen must be cut with (250 ± 10) mm length with sharp scissors to get a clean cut.  

BS EN 3475‑707 also conducts visual examinations given the following requirements: 

• wires shall not splay on a length superior to half a lay of cable.
• wires shall not splay more than three millimetres.
