BS EN 4681‑001 is the first part of the multi-series standard that specifies the characteristics, test methods, qualification and acceptance conditions of single and multicore electric cables for general purpose with conductors in aluminium or copper-clad aluminium, intended for installation in aircraft electrical systems.
The insulation of these cables is designed to withstand aircraft voltages at a frequency not exceeding 2000 Hz. Unless specified by individual product standards the maximum demonstrated voltage of rating of these cables is ac 115 V RMS phase to neutral and 200 V RMS phase to phase and 28 Vdc.
They are divided into types, the characteristics of which are given in the product standards. Unless otherwise specified in the product standard, the tests defined in BS EN 4681‑001 apply.
BS EN 4681‑001 on cables, electric, general-purpose, with conductors in aluminium or copper-clad aluminium is useful for:
Aerospace electrical cables sustain intense vibration during takeoff, flight, and landing, while also being subject to harsh environmental conditions. Cable faults cost money and create disruption, so there is an enormous demand for cable test techniques to ensure cables and joints are in good condition.
BS EN 4681‑001 provides information on the materials and construction of cables. And it’s important that the insulation, coverings, appearance and markings of the cables should conform to BS EN 4681‑001. Quality Assurance measurements in BS EN 4681‑001 ensures that the approaches, techniques, methods and processes designed for the aircraft electrical systems are implemented correctly. BS EN 4681‑001 is important because it enhances quality and user satisfaction. It can boost the customer’s faith and confidence with the aircraft and enhance their experience working with the aircraft in the long run.
