BS EN 16254 is an international standard used for adhesives that specifies the test method for Emulsion polymerized isocyanate (EPI) adhesives. BS EN 16254 is useful in determining the optical and working characteristics of these adhesives.
BS EN 16254 establishes a classification for emulsion polymerized isocyanate (EPI) adhesives according to their suitability for use in load-bearing timber structures in defined climatic exposure conditions and specifies performance requirements for such adhesives for the industrial manufacture of load-bearing timber structures only.
BS EN 16254 is primarily intended for the use of adhesive manufacturers and for the use in timber structures bonded with adhesives, to assess or control the quality of adhesives. BS EN 16254 only specifies the performance of an adhesive for use in an environment corresponding to the defined conditions.
Such an adhesive meeting the requirements of BS EN 16254 for its type is adequate for use in a load-bearing timber structure, provided that the bonding process has been carried out according to an appropriate product standard.
Note: The performance requirements of this European Standard apply to the adhesives only, not to the timber structure.
Note 2: BS EN 16254 does not cover the performance of adhesives for on-site gluing (except for factory-like conditions) nor the production of wood-based panels, except solid wood panels, or modified and stabilized wood with considerably reduced swelling and shrinkage properties, e.g., such as acetylated wood, heat treated wood and polymer impregnated wood.
BS EN 16254 on Adhesives is useful for:
Emulsion polymerized isocyanate (EPI) adhesives are also known as glue or cement. These adhesives are non-metallic substances applied to one or both surfaces of two separate items that binds them together and resist their separation.
By using BS EN 16254, you can classify the adhesives according to the operative requirements and conditions. BS EN 16254 guidelines can help in performing the test method for emulsion polymerized isocyanate (EPI) adhesives. This test method helps in determining the characteristics of these adhesives and they are as follows:
This test method is useful in ensuring the sustainability and reliability of this Emulsion polymerized isocyanate (EPI) adhesives in different climatic conditions.
Using BS EN 16254 you can determine the working properties of these adhesives. By applying BS EN 16254 you can produce good quality Emulsion polymerized isocyanate (EPI) adhesives which are used in joining the timber structure.
