Membership brings together over 11,000 organisations committed to making positive change through standards. It gives them extra support in implementing standards, which in turn helps drive performance across every sector of the economy.

Through the BSI badge, our members can proudly and visually showcase to their customers that they care about excellence and a commitment to best practice. Pride in being part of BSI is a clear driver for many of our members, along with the more tangible benefits of Membership.  Click here to Become a BSI Member.

Who can be a BSI member?

Membership is open to any organization that's committed to making positive change through standards, from micro businesses to large multinationals. Our members typically use standards within their business, and come from all sectors of our economy.

What are the benefits of BSI Membership?

We support members to implement standards and embed best practice. As a member you have exclusive access to practical tools, insights and support from our team of expert researchers, all aiming to save you time and help your organisation to perform.

  • Our Member Enquiry Service helps you to research and understand the standards that are relevant to you. Ask us what standards apply to you, find out about updated, withdrawn or international standards, and challenge us with your complex queries.

  • If you're not sure if a particular standard is right for your business, you can book a 2 hour slot to use our online library so you can try-before-you-buy.

  • Generous discounts are a big part of your Membership, with 50% off British Standards, 50% off BSI Knowledge subscriptions and 50% off Compliance Navigator. We offer 10% off ISO and other foreign standards.

  • We value your opinions and insights. Every BSI Membership organization has a vote at our Annual General Meeting; we encourage you to attend and hear more about what we do. You can also get involved in standards development through our network of specialist committees which publishes about 2,500 new standards per year.

  • For many members, the BSI Membership certificate and digital badge are valuable assets that they use to build their reputation and stand out from the competition.

Does BSI Membership give access to standards?

Not directly, but members get 50% discount if you want access to our library of standards via a BSI Knowledge Subscription, or if you're a medical device manufacturer looking for BSI Compliance Navigator.

How does Membership work?

BSI Membership is an annual paid subscription for organizations that use standards and want additional support, discounts and resources. There’s an annual fee, based on your country, sector and size. If you’re a sole trader or a small business owner, you can join at our lowest Membership rate.  If your employer is a member, your whole team has full access to Member benefits and services, and your Membership Administrator can set this up for you.

BSI Membership is different to BSI certification; while both show your commitment to excellence, certification goes further by proving you conform to a specific standard, through a series of audits.

What’s the difference between subscribing members and committee members?

There are two types of members at BSI. Subscribing members usually join because they use standards within their business and would value the benefits that we describe on this page.

Committee members bring relevant knowledge and experience to the technical committees that develop our standards. They might bring professional experience or represent a group of stakeholders such as professional bodies, charities, public interest groups or government.
