Are you on the hunt for the right standard, but don’t have hours to confirm it really is the one you need?

By becoming a BSI Member, you can ask the BSI Membership Enquiry Service for help.

You’ll be talking to professional researchers at the UK’s national standards body who all have up-to-date databases of national and international standards.

Whether you want standards to support innovation, or you want to identify exactly what’s inside a particular standard, or which standards are relevant in a particular area, we help our members get answers.

Seven ways we help BSI members:

1. Find the right standard for a particular need If you want to scope out an area to see which standards apply, the BSI Knowledge Centre team can help with identifying potentially relevant standards available in that area. Our team member will search for relevant keywords and send you a list of the results.

2. Carry out detailed searches inside a standard If you need more detailed information about the content of a standard, we can carry out a keyword search within the standard so you can decide if it meets your requirements. This covers current and withdrawn British standards, along with European and international standards.

3. Understand what a standard includes before you buy It can be frustrating to buy a standard only to discover that you misunderstood what it covers. The BSI Membership Enquiry Service can confirm what is included (and not included) in a particular standard. Alternatively, we will refer you to the relevant part of BSI Knowledge where you can view or download the scope and contents page of the standard which will provide the relevant information.

4. Find out what’s changed If you suspect a standard has been updated, our expert researchers can point you to the most up-to-date version or any related standards affected by the changes.

5. Identify foreign standards If you are planning to expand into a new market, you will need to know about standards that apply in that region. Our researchers can help you pinpoint relevant European, national or international (ISO) standards.

6. Track down withdrawn standards An old version of a current standard can be a useful reference point. We can advise on which withdrawn standards applied to an area at a particular time in the past.

7. View a standard before you buy it Remember, as a BSI Member, you can have access to view a particular standard remotely for up to two hours a month.
