BS EN 752:2017

What is BS EN 752 - Sewer system management about?  

BS EN 752 specifies the objectives for drain and sewer systems outside buildings. BS EN 752 specifies the functional requirements for achieving these objectives and the principles for strategic and policy activities relating to planning, design, installation, operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation. 

BS EN 752 is applicable to drain and sewer systems from the point where wastewater leaves a building, roof drainage system, or paved area, to the point where it is discharged into a wastewater treatment plant or receiving water body. 

Note : Drains and sewers below buildings are included provided that they do not form part of the drainage system for the building.

Why should you use BS EN 752 - Sewer system management?  

Lack of proper sewer systems can lead to several issues like flooding, collapse of the building and unhygienic conditions. The basic goal of a sewer systems is to collect and eliminate waste matter in a systematic manner. Sewer systems are intended to dispose wastewater as fast as feasible and to keep sewage and septic tank gases out of residential areas to prevent diseases.  

BS EN 752 provides a framework for the design, construction, maintenance operation, and rehabilitation of drain and sewer systems outside buildings. 

What is changed since the last update?  

BS EN 752:2017 supersedes BS EN 752:2008, which is withdrawn. BS EN 752:2017 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 752:2008.  

These include: 

• The terminology has been aligned with BS EN 16323:2014 
• All the text relating to the determination of performance requirements and design criteria has been moved to Clause 5 as these are part of this policy activity and not the design process 
• All physical design requirements in the former Clause 9 have been moved to a new Annex D 
• All the hydraulic design requirements in the former Clause 9 have been moved to pr EN 16933-2 to provide a more coherent narrative 
• A new Annex B on rehabilitation approaches has been added
