Who is this standard for?
Why should you use this standard?
International Machinery Directives require that manufacturers of escalators and moving walkways ensure testing of their products before placing them into service or after any major modifications as clearly there is a risk of harm to users if either are installed or manufactured incorrectly.
BS 5656-3 gives the most up-to-date specifications on how to comply with the examination, testing and recording requirements as detailed in BS EN 115-1 before the products are put into operation.
What’s changed since the last update?
Together with BS 5656-1:2013, this part of BS 5656 supersedes BS 5656-1:1997, which is withdrawn.
NOTE: This part of BS 5656 is intended to be read in conjunction with BS EN 115-1:2008+A1:2010.
