BS EN 806-2:2005

A new series of European Standards aims to provide requirements and recommendations for all materials in contact with drinking water.  Whether you have responsibilities for local authority mains, building sites or public and private buildings, these publications need to be consulted. 

The design applies to new installations, pipework, as well as alterations and repairs.

BS EN 806-2:2005 provides technical requirements so that:

• appropriate pressures and flow rates are achieved
• water quality at the tap is not contaminated or affected by the local environment
• the system from mains connection to tap avoids waste and leakage
• the system is efficient, convenient, safe, reliable and has a reasonable working life.

  BS EN 806 parts 1-5 will eventually fully replace BS 6700:1997.

BS EN 806 is divided into 5 parts; the following parts are now available:

• BS EN 806-1:2000 Specifications for installations inside buildings conveying water for human consumption. General.
• BS EN 806-3:2006 Specification for installations inside buildings conveying water for human consumption. Pipe sizing  
• BS EN 806-4:2010 Specifications for installations inside buildings conveying water for human consumption - Design
• BS EN 806-5:2012 Specifications for installations inside buildings conveying water for human consumption - Operation and maintenance

This European Standard specifies requirements and gives recommendations on the design of potable water installations within buildings and for pipework outside buildings but within the premises. It applies to new installations, alterations and repairs. This European Standard includes guidelines for water meter installations, water conditioning, acoustics, protection of systems against temperatures external to pipes, fittings and appliances, combined drinking water and fire fighting services, and prevention of corrosion damage.
